Very well mannered and personable. However, I had to push him hard for answers and and treatments. Apparently, my latest symptoms didn't present as a text book so he was unwilling to refer me for repeat treatments despite having referred me for them previously and their having worked very well (and my having exhausted many other options). Would have liked him to reply more fully to my queries and listen to what my body was telling me rather than what the imaging told him. He is in demand so we only have 20 minute time slots, but he did join some on-line meetings late and then use a further 5 minutes looking at my notes so I only actually had 10 minutes with him. Perhaps he could have consulted the MRIs prior to the meetings? He also doubted the efficacity of some treatments although I told him they worked very well. In the end, I've had to seek a second opinion which is a great shame as I'm sure he is a well-respected surgeon, if not a bit siloed in his treatments. I would have loved him to be more proactive and believe me that his previously recommended treatments were the best route. I know I'm not medically qualified but I do know what my body is experiencing. Also, most of the correspondence was through his PA and as only 7% of communication is through words, it meant he couldn't tell how distressed I was. However, I have marked trust as high since I would trust him to carry out a complex operation.

Mr Laing is a caring, compassionate Consultant. He has a manner that instantly relaxes the patient. He listens to what you say and empathises with you. He'll make suggestions and accepts your decision if he thinks it's safe to do so. After having 2 previous surgeries with him as my surgeon I would hate to have anyone else operate should I in time need one. As a surgeon I can't praise him enough. He has operated on 2 other members of my family, they also praised him as a person and surgeon. I cannot suggest anything to improve his care of each and every patient. If I could I'd score 10 stars

I cannot speak highly enough of Mr Laing, From my first consultation (viaTeams), arranging an MRI, then again seeing him at the Nuffield Clinic. He is friendly, approachable, professional and I feel totally confident in his hands. He went through my MRI with me, explaining exactly what the results meant and what surgery I would require. He listened to my thoughts and needs and gave me very clear explanations on everything. I need decompression surgery later in the month and I have total trust and confidence in Mr Laing. He is 5* in my eyes.

I cannot speak highly enough about my MRI and follow up video consultation with Mr Laing. Everything from discussions with his secretary, Annie, through to arrival and processing for the MRI was exemplary in every way. All staff were so helpful. The areas were very clean and infection control measures were in force. I was particularly impressed with the clear, uncomplicated explanation of my condition and the visual talk through from my MRI was much appreciated. Overall, a thoroughly professional experience which made me feel confident and comfortable about it all. I felt valued as a patient, thank you all.

It became necessary to have a second minimally invasive lumbar decompression at L3/4 three weeks ago due to spinal stenosis following the same surgery at L4/5 three years ago. Once again Mr Laing was able to see me quickly, diagnosed the problem and arranged the necessary surgery. I recovered remarkably quickly, am now pain free, able to walk reasonable distances and once again looking forward to getting back to golf. Mr Laing is not only an excellent, skilled surgeon but he executes his life changing work with a wonderful mix of kindness, compassion and humour.
